Rare fic wish-list

  • Dec. 22nd, 2008 at 3:16 PM
Antidoto
I saw this elsewhere and thought it was a great idea. These are rare fandoms and characters/pairings I'm interested in, so if anyone has a great yen to write something along these lines, any of these would make me jump up and down and squee.

This list will be edited according to whim.

The Good, The Bad & The Weird
I adore Bad. Anything about his backstory would be wonderful, and as it's hinted that Good and Bad have come across one another before, something exploring their previous run-ins would be completely awesome.

Ouchou Haru no Yoi no Romance
Yes, technicaly it's shota and that's eww. I don't particularly like Senjumaru but I do like Fujiwara no Moroe's good-hearted, heroic nature - but my favourite character is Ariwara no Narihira, the beautiful, sarcastic, meddling, amoral voluptuary who's soft as marshmallow inside. Narihira is sexy as hell and a far better bed-partner for Moroe than Senju. This is the Heian period - serial shagging was rife. Narihira deserves some action, either with Moroe (AU is totally fine) or with an OC. Hell, I'd even go for Seimei/Narihira for the ultimate in cracky crossovers.

Three Kingdoms/Red Cliff
Zhuge Liang, preferably with Zhou Yu, Sun Quan or Jiang Wei. If Takeshi n’ Tony aren’t your bag in terms of avatars, there’s always the upcoming mainland TV series which is just swarming with hot guys. From the movie version I’d most like something exploring Zhou Yu’s line “His music tells me he needs a friend” after the qin scene.

Laura Joh Rowland – Sano Ichiro series
Yanagisawa/Hoshina or Yanagisawa and one of his Noh actors, or just Yanagisawa on his own. See my Dear Yuletide Santa letter for details.

Barbara Nadel - Çetin Ikmen series
Mehmet Süleyman is gorgeous, aristocratic and deeply flawed. Even more so now that Nadel has completely lost the plot with this series. Anything set before The Dance of Death would be good. Although I loved the slashy undertones in that book between Mehmet and Mürsel, it was developed very badly in A Passion for Killing and kind of ruined the whole thing for me. I prefer Mehmet earlier in the series, especially his relationship with Ayşe, and his affair with the Russian prostitute when he was struggling to get back together with Zelfa. Anything about his Ottoman history would be a bonus.

Susannah Gregory – The Matthew Bartholomew Chronicles
Another long-running detective series that’s gone off the boil, especially as far as Matt is concerned. I’d like to see him lose the wimpiness and do something decisive for once, preferably regarding his totally non-existent love life (the last satisfactory fling he had was with the gypsy girl – the whole Mathilde thing is boring and ill-contrived), albeit it in an IC manner. Brother Michael is my favourite character, and the other thing I like about the series is the proliferation of frankly barking minor characters who wander around the college spouting ecclesiastical and secular nonsense, so anything that includes academic nutters is bound to please.

Matsunaga Kuuya – Tokaido Hisame/Tokaido Kagerou
I love this manga so much; it’s absolutely adorable. I haven’t found any fic for this anywhere o_O so... Itsuki/Hibiki would be hot, fuelled by jealousy; Itsuki and one of his many women, while he thinks of Hisame; and at the risk of resolving all that lovely UST, Itsuki/Hisame, because you just know that one day, Hisame will give in...

Spooks
Lucas North gen fic. His relationship with his Elizaveta, his time in Russia, his thoughts when he returned to Moscow for the Sugarhorse operation... there’s lots to explore here. As ever with Lucas, the shirt is optional.

Or Lucas /Alec Trevelyan (GoldenEye). Because this pairing would be awesome.

Lust, Caution
Tony’s Mr Yee is a blank canvas imbued with a depth of character. I’d love to see some backstory – why did he become a collaborator? His morals are both fluid and immovable – something on the nature of fidelity, betrayal and treason would be worthwhile exploring, I think. Is Chia Chi/Mak Mak his first indiscretion or has he had other women before? His sensual nature is very clearly defined, but how/where/when did it develop?

Apparitions
Father Jacob has a past, but what’s in it? We’re never told in the show except for the remark that he’s not a virgin. Jacob has an immense capacity for forgiveness and he’s rarely shocked (though often appalled) by what the demons do to him and those around him. Why is his faith so deep? When and how did he become a priest? Endless fodder here for fics.

Also, now the series has finished with a rather ham-fisted set-up for series 2 – and as it’s unlikely to get a second season – there’s lots of possibilities for continuing the plotlines.

Boston Legal
While I adore Denny and Alan, the character who always intrigues me is Shirley. Powerful, dynamic, decisive and a heartbreaker, her past is littered with guys she’s left but who still carry a torch for her. I’d like to read about her backstory. What shaped her personality and does she have any regrets (apart from Jack)? I especially liked the episode where Alan rescued her underage nude modelling photos from the artist’s widow – it would be interesting to see Alan’s private meditations (rather than his public-to-Denny bluster) on his feelings for Shirley.

F1
Michael/Mika, Ayrton/Gerhard, Heinz/Eddie, Ralf/JPM... anything old skool. I’d love to see something about Mika’s weeping fit at Monza in 1999; the media were terribly unfair to him for this uncharacteristic display of emotion.

Celebrity chefs
Marcus Wareing/Gordon Ramsay. Yes, I know, I know. I’m not a fan of Gordon Ramsay but the fact that he trained Marcus Wareing (who I find kinda hot) makes me wonder at the dynamics between them. Also, I have a thing for food in fic. I don’t mean chocolate-mousse-in-bed kind of food but just... its social meaning, the art of it, the symbolism of it. So a fic about two chefs would make me happy, especially if it had a recipe or two tucked inside it.

Dear me, there's so much fodder it practically writes itself!

I made the tiramisu btw.

I love how Angela Hartnett gets in on the bitching....

Is there any Tia Maria left for my Coke? *dribbles*

btw, the Rocky Road was positively devoured by about 12 people. Everyone raved and said it was utterly amazing. Beth loved the amaretti.

Yeah I put half a cup of Tia Maria into the coffee so there's plenty left!

Yay, glad they liked it! Shirley looks miffed there was none for her, she is running around and bipping.

That's weird. It never showed up on my f-list view.

Then I looked at the list and had that horrible feeling. All these cool people... and I don't know them. WHY? and Where do I start? XD

It didn't show up because I dated it out of order to avoid spamming folk who wouldn't be interested, then linked it to my LJ profile. And I know no one will ever write these fandoms LOL well, maybe F1 or Boston Legal, but I doubt anyone will do the others. Ah well, there's always Yuletide next year!

Hope you had a good Xmas, btw :)

Not interested??? No way! It looks like a list to explore during the next year. Along with extensive research on foxes. ;)

Xmas is still on...mmm... til Monday. :) It's definitely good. Yours?

If you like detective novels you may like Rowland, Gregory and Nadel's series'. Laura Joh Rowland's books are set in the late 17th century, mainly in Edo but the hero (Sano Ichiro) wanders around Japan a bit. The earlier books are the better ones, scandalising all sorts of Amazon reviewers with Japanese perversions OMG. Sano is a bit of a too-good-to-be-true hero and his wife is irritating as all hell, but I like the hot-tempered sidekick Hirata and I adore Yanagisawa, who is really the sexiest baddy I've ever read.

Barbara Nadel's series is set in Istanbul from the 90s to today. Her hero is a middle-aged, overworked cop who's a family man. He's a really different sort of detective. Suleyman is his sexy second in command, descended from an Ottoman ruling family. The sense of place in these novels is extraordinary, especially in the earlier books.

Susannah Gregory's Matt Bartholomew is a doctor in 12-13th century Cambridge who blunders into detecting. The history is very well done in this series, with the distinctions between town and gown and ecclesiastical and secular. There's quite a lot of humour in the series as well, and the secondary character are often far more interesting than the hero.Like Sano Ichiro, Matt is a bit holier-than-thou but the mysteries themselves are very clever and the college scholars are hilarious.

Tokiado Hisame and Kagerou have been scanlated here (Hisame)and here (Kagerou). So cute!

Spooks is a long-running BBC series (this was season 7), it has a different title in the US, I think it's called MI5. Lucas North is played by Richard Armitage, who was Guy of Gisbourne in BBC's Robin Hood series if you ever saw that. Anywy, Spooks is about MI5 and Lucas was left to rot in a Russian jail for 8 years before he was traded back. Lots of angst and action and things exploding all over the place. You can probably dl it from somewhere but otherwise on YouTube.

Apparitions stars Martin Shaw as an exorcist. It's cheesy but well-written, the sins of the Catholic church revisited with each ep as a bunch of demons fight against Father Jacob. Not much of it on YouTube but I know it's on dl sites.

And I recommend Lust, Caution anyway - a very good film, beautifully acted.

My Xmas is over and was stressful. Nuff said.

The only Yanagisawa fic in English I've ever been able to find was by [info]juxiantang. I'm not sure where she's from but she also writes in Russian. I don't understand why there isn't more fic for this series!!

yes, the books are wonderful, and such a stuff for ff!
the only way is somebody translates the czech stories in english.or you can learn czech. (i recommend the first above mentioned way:-)) though).
the czech stories are rowland ff, it´s slash, the plot is based on reincarnation too, and there is also a crime story too (unfinished, so far).

I would if I had all the books to refer to, but unfortunately I read them all from the library last year when I lived in New Zealand. The library here is not so good and I can't afford to buy the books :/ Plus I really can't think of a good plot! I love detective stories but couldn't write one LOL

It was cold LOL, I lived at the south of the south island so it had winds from the Antarctic. It was also very quiet and rural. It's a lovely country but I missed Europe!

I know some Chinese but not much, and the only Japanese I know is the name of my favourite actor HAHAHA

Yep, that's the Chinese version of 'glitterburn' and 'I've barely seen you this episode', a Chinese friend translated it for me :)

LOL I'm sure Czech is a really difficult language! What a shame, the reincarnation story sounds really interesting. Is it Yanagisawa and an original character or someone else?
[info]asperias wrote:
May. 22nd, 2009 04:16 pm (UTC)
original character, i don´t remember the name, but it was one of his lovers in the books (one of the earliest) , and he was executed i think. if you tell me the name, i will tell you whether it´s him :-) bad memory.
and they live in today´s tokio, yanagisawa is a very powerful bussinessman and the other is much youngerr and is an actor of kabuki? theatre? he is an actor certainly. and they remember their life and relationship in tokugawa japan, and they have relationship in today´s japan. and then she began to write a detective story with these characters and sano, reiko, hoshina and such characters are there too, they are the detectives . and i think the murderer is somebody from the past too. (s)he left a cut-off head in yanagisawa office (like bundori?).
[info]glitterburn wrote:
May. 22nd, 2009 04:28 pm (UTC)
Oh I know who you mean! I don't have the books with me but I think it must be the young Noh actor who was Yanagisawa's lover in Bundori. He fell in love with Yanagisawa and told him, and Yanagisawa was afraid of being the object of love so he made a plan to have the boy spy on Sano in another book. And the boy was executed in the end. It must be him. Cool! That's a great idea, bringing them back together again in the present day!

it really is a great idea, i like this pair. and boy quite teases "yanagisawa" now, in the nowaday japan life :-) he has to pay for his sins:-).
